Answer

The cargo control number

Frequently, importers receive information concerning the arrival of a shipment. They are informed on the number of parcels, the order number and the are told that everything will leave the same day. That is it, we are informed.

How can we, then, track our shipment with that little information? One must recognize that the most important piece of information is the cargo control number. Effectively, the cargo control number will allow you to track your shipment at anytime regardless of its location at the time of your search.

In order to understand why, we must understand the meaning of this number. The cargo control number is divided into two parts. The first part identifies the carrier used for the transport. The second part identifies the shipment. For example, if we look at an air waybill from Air Canada, we will observe on the top left corner a number such as 014-1234 9876. The 014- (first part) identifies Air Canada as the carrier, while the 1234 9876 (second part) is the shipment’s identification number.

In order to quickly track your shipment, it is essential to always have the cargo control number on hand. You will then be able to track your shipment at anytime.
